Landscapes

In the summer of 2008 I did a semester abroad. I did a summer painting program in Ireland through SUNY Cortland. We stayed in Dingle which is where we did a majority of our plein air painting. A french term associated with painting outdoors but also meaning painting without leaving room for much drying time. When painting outdoors the sun is a key element, always moving and casting new shadows, you have to be quick to capture it right.  When painting with oils, a medium that usually takes days to dry keeping a colorful canvas full of depth is quite tricky.

I haven’t yet revisited the theme of landscapes in my work but I am hoping to change that this summer!
